Elena Beier: on intellectual property law in the digital age for Chinese students
On 6 April, Elena Beier, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at St Petersburg University, delivered a lecture "Global challenges to intellectual property law in the digital age". The lecture was delivered to students of Jilin University, China’s leading national university.
The event was opened by Professor Shuangge Wen, Acting Dean of the School of Law at Jilin University. She delivered a welcoming speech. In the main part of the event, Elena Beier spoke about intellectual property rights in the latest technologies. Among them are: metauniverses, big data, and artificial intelligence. Students were especially interested in the issue of the territoriality of intellectual rights in the aspect of global technologies that are known to have no boundaries. The lecture also focused on the Russian approaches to the regulation of some innovative technologies, in particular artificial intelligence.
The Chinese colleagues thanked Elena Beier and expressed their hope for further fruitful cooperation with St Petersburg University. They also talked about the importance of the University’s traditions and high educational standards.
St Petersburg University will continue to develop new areas of cooperation with foreign universities. Elena Beier, in her turn, will continue to share her knowledge with a foreign audience. Her online course "Intellectual Property Law in Digital Age" will be added to the list of St Petersburg University courses on the international online learning platform XuetangX.
