Elena Chernova: ‘Today, the Labour Forum focuses on developing strategies for adapting to new economic conditions’
At the press conference in the TASS Russian News Agency, Elena Chernova, Senior Vice-Rector at St Petersburg University, has spoken about; what key topics the 6th International Labour Forum discussed; how St Petersburg University was engaged in organising the event; and what role education played for the labour market in the new economic conditions.
The 6th St Petersburg International Labour Forum is the largest event in the field of labour and human capital development for managers and employees of companies, representatives of science, public sector, experts and scientists from various fields. The goal of the 2022 Labour Forum was to develop and promote fundamentally new mechanisms and instruments of state policy in the field of regulation and support of the labour market responding to the new challenges, said Elena Chernova, Senior Vice-Rector at St Petersburg University.
‘In the context of the new post-pandemic economy and the sanctions against the Russian Federation, the Labour Forum should respond to the task to develop strategies to adapt to new conditions, expand human resources, and develop new competencies. Speakers and participants are ready to exchange best practices and new technologies and to determine the vectors for the development of human capital in the current situation,’ said Elena Chernova.
Among the events that focused on the issues of economic policy and new economic realities is the 6th International Economic Symposium organised by St Petersburg University. The event will bring together leading scholars and practitioners in the field of economics, management, and finance from Russia and abroad.
The participants and experts of the Labour Forum will pay special attention to education. Developing educational technologies and the content of education in the current conditions will be discussed at a special track of the Labour Forum, i.e. ‘Vectors and trajectories of developing education in the interests of sustainable economic development’, said Elena Chernova, Senior Vice-Rector.
One of the key events of the forum is the K.U.B. exhibition dedicated to labour safety and personnel development. At the exhibition, St Petersburg University will: share its experience in implementing clinical practices for students; hold a series of workshops and consultations with the University specialists; and demonstrate the results of the state-of-the-art research projects conducted at St Petersburg University.
The traditional satellite event is the 6th St Petersburg International Youth Labour Forum, that is the Russia’s largest international platform for young generation to discuss the problems and challenges in employment, human capital, and personnel management.
The International Youth Labour Forum is a unique event that brings together students from universities across Russia and discuss issues that have become especially relevant in an era of turbulence.

In 2022, the key topic of the St Petersburg International Youth Labour Forum is development and career in the new reality. Experts will talk about the changes associated with COVID-19 and discuss new technologies, continuous learning and changing employers’ requirements for early-career professionals.
During the 6th International Labour Forum, St Petersburg University organises 53 events: conferences, workshops, and discussions to name but a few. Among the speakers are researchers from St Petersburg University involved in the psychology and sociology of labour, labour law, and personnel management specialists, managers, economists, and doctors.
We are absolutely sure that the recommendations that will be formulated during the Labour Forum will underpin the state policy on the regulation of the labour market and employment.

The press conference was also attended by Dmitriy Kobitskiy, Secretary General — Head of the Secretariat of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly; Dmitrii Cherneiko, Chairman of the St Petersburg Committee for Labour and Employment; and Sergey Voronkov, General Director of ExpoForum International.
The 6th St Petersburg International Labour Forum will be held from 16 to 18 March in a mixed format. The in-person part of the Labour Forum will be organised at three venues: the Tauride Palace, St Petersburg University, and the Expoforum Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Forum is organised by: the Government of St Petersburg; St Petersburg University; the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of States Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Russia; and the Federal Service for Labour and Employment.
