The week of career guidance events offered by St Petersburg University to attract talented applicants has come to an end in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Representatives of the oldest Russia’s university took part in the major educational exhibition, visited schools in the city and held an open day at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent.

One of the main events was the participation of the University delegation in the 27th international exhibition ‘Education and Profession — 2025’ held in the capital of Uzbekistan. The University team presented a wide range of educational opportunities for applicants from Uzbekistan. The meeting, organised with the support of the representative office of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Agency for Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, brought together more than 100 educational organisations from all over the world.

According to Irina Staroselskaia, Head of the Representative Office of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation, such events are an opportunity for young people to choose their career path. ‘Educational exhibitions help young professionals understand what prospects are open to them. They have the opportunity not only to decide what university to apply to, but also choose an area of study, country of study, and future profession. It is gratifying that different areas of study, both engineering and humanities, are available to the pupils’, said Irina Staroselskaia, emphasising the importance of finding a professional calling that ensures harmonious coexistence in the professional sphere and personal life. She sincerely wished all applicants to find their life path.

Future students and their parents were particularly interested in individual consultations from the University regarding admissions in 2025. The issues they were mostly interested in were areas of study, scholarship opportunities and specifics of education for foreign citizens. Applicants were introduced to the degree programmes available for admissions to the St Petersburg University branch in the 2025/2026 academic year. Students who are striving to receive a prestigious Russian education without having to leave Uzbekistan will acquire the necessary knowledge and sought-after skills in order to ensure a breakthrough in the high-tech sectors of the country’s national economy in future.

The application deadline for foreign citizens for programmes at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent in 2025 is 25 July 2025. You can submit an application and relevant documents remotely through the applicant’s personal account. The programmes of entrance examinations and the list of required documents are published on the page ‘Admissions to the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent’ in the section ‘Admissions Committee’ on the official website of St Petersburg University. This year, admissions are open to four programmes. Among them are the following: the bachelor’s programme ‘International Business in the Digital Economy’; and master’s programmes ‘International Entrepreneurship in the Digital Economy’, ‘Contemporary China: Economics, Politics, Society (with Chinese language tuition)’ and ‘Private International Law’. The results of the competitive selection will be published no later than 15 August 2025 on the official website.

Apart from participating in the exhibition, the University delegation visited the following Tashkent comprehensive schools: school No 145, school No 94, school No 51, school No 65, and school No 175, to help senior pupils decide on their future profession. The eleventh-graders learned about the rich history of the oldest university in Russia, learned about the admissions procedure in 2025, including the competition portfolio, the format of testing in Russian and the possibility of receiving additional points to be enrolled at the University. Applicants from both countries can increase their chances of getting an education at St Petersburg University by taking part in the international research paper contest ‘The Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation in the context of transforming the system of international relations’. The winners of the intellectual contest last season were awarded during the open day at the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent, which took place the next morning. Temur Iuldashev, Representative of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, awarded diplomas and souvenirs to the winners of the contest.

Aleksandr Babich, Senior Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Admissions at St Petersburg University, gave a welcoming speech at the St Petersburg University Applicant Day at the University branch in Tashkent, noting the importance of international cooperation in the field of education.

The opening of the branch is an act of high trust on the part of the President and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan. By the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the relevant amendments were made to the Charter of St Petersburg University, which allowed us to initiate educational activities in the Republic of Uzbekistan. I would like to note that the branch in Tashkent is the only branch of St Petersburg University located in the territory of a foreign state. I think that this says a lot about the high level of relations between our states and our peoples.

Aleksandr Babich, Acting Senior Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Admissions at St Petersburg University

Professor Bakhodir Begalov, Chairman of the Council of the bachelor’s programme ‘International Business in the Digital Economy’, and Artem Rubtsov, Deputy Director of the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent, also addressed those present with welcoming words. They emphasised the need for a conscious choice of a future profession and shared personal advice on achieving success. Olesia Lopach, Deputy Head of the Department and Head of the International Admissions Office at St Petersburg University, presented detailed information about the admissions process, dispelling doubts of applicants and answering numerous questions from applicants.

Then, representatives of academic programmes focused on the features of teaching and learning process in their areas of study. Mariana Gubina, Associate Professor in the Department of World Economy at St Petersburg University, Head of the bachelor’s programme ‘International Business in the Digital Economy’, reported on in-demand skills and prospects in the field of e-business. Evgeny Osmanov, Associate Professor in the Department of Theory of Social Development of Asian and African Countries at St Petersburg State University, Head of the master’s programme ‘Contemporary China: Economics, Politics, Society (with Chinese language tuition)’, gave recommendations for those who want to study the eastern country. Innokentii Karandashov, Associate Professor in the Department of International Law at St Petersburg University, Head of the master’s programme ‘Private International Law’, shared the secrets of a legal career in the international arena.

The week of career guidance events held by St Petersburg University in Uzbekistan became an important step in strengthening educational ties between the two countries and contributed to attracting talented young people to one of the leading universities in Russia.
