Exploring Russian Literary Works with SPbU "Contemporary Russian Literature" Course for International Students
St Petersburg University offers a distinctive course "Contemporary Russian Literature", designed for international students and those who want to explore the vibrant literary milieu of modern Russia. This course introduces students to the Russian literature of 1990-2010s, helping them to gain insight into the historical and social context of that period.
The course covers a wide range of genres, from novels and short stories to poetry and plays, written by the most famous contemporary writers such as Zakhar Prilepin, Roman Senchin, Vladimir Sorokin, Viktor Pelevin, Boris Akunin, Tatiana Tolstaya and many others. Through studying Russian literature, students will get acquainted with modern Russian culture, better understand the everyday joys and sorrows of Russians, and will find it easier to establish common ground with them, as well as learn to compare the culture and literature trends of your home country and Russia.
The course includes lectures and practical lessons, where students could share their interpretations and connect literature to broader cultural contexts. Classes are conducted in English, the language of international communication, which makes the potential target audience international in the strict sense of the word.
Whether you are an international student, professional philologist or simply curious about Russian culture, this course will deepen your understanding of modern Russian society through its literature.
The course is designed for preformed groups of 10 or more students.
