Future-oriented: Employers and graduates help SPbU open educational programmes of the future
St Petersburg University is among the world’s top universities on graduate employability. According to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, SPbU is the best in Russia at creating student-employer connections.
Values of education is always immense in society. Whilst five years ago knowledge and expertise you gain at university were life-long, today, when science and technologies are gaining momentum more than ever, life-long learning is indispensable to the continuance of life. However, you have to study four years to gain a bachelor degree and another two years to get a master degree.
New conditions made it absolutely necessary for universities to be able to see clearly what competences are in high demand in labour market. Academic knowledge is not enough.
St Petersburg University is creating student-employer connections as it is the employers who know best what expertise and skills you need today and which competences you will need tomorrow. The employers are those who are from the research institutions, business, and public sector.
Since 2010, the professional communities are represented in the Academic Commissions, which develop educational standards, circulars, and programmes. Besides, the employers work at the State Qualification Commission, which provides objective evaluation of the graduates.
SPbU is 20 among 400 universities in the world
The University could balance academic approach and business pragmatics and, by doing so, it was better prepared to comply its educational standards with the professional standards of the Ministry of Labour of the Russian Federation.
Another area of collaboration with the employers is internships. SPbU has Office for Internship and Employability that focuses on student-employer connections. While the students can add professional competences to their knowledge gained at the academic environment, the employers can assess the potential of students to get them a job.
One of the benefits the University can gain is gaining higher positions in education globally. Quacquarelli Symonds Graduate Employability Rankings are another evidence. St Petersburg University is the best in Russia at creating student-employer connections and is 20 among the world’s top 400 universities.
Our graduates, as they gain experience and climb the career ladder, also contribute to the University. SPbU has created Alumni Association to bring together academics, students, and graduates and to use their intellectual, cultural and financial potential to benefit alma mater. The Alumni Outcomes index reflects that SPbU is 34 on a global scale, according to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2018.
