Interdisciplinary programme in nanotechnologies

For 2018/19 entry, SPbU has opened a wide-ranging master programme in Fundamental and Applied Aspects of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies.

Fundamental and Applied Aspects of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies is unique in bringing together the SPBU’s leading scientists in a broad range of areas to form a coherent and stimulating programme. Fundamental and Applied Aspects of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies underpins the conceptual framework and methodology of physics, mechanics, chemistry, laser chemistry, and materials studies.

The programme has no rivals as it educates and prepares specialists for education, research, and innovations in nanosciences. “What makes the programme unique is that it also focuses on business communications, economics, legal aspects and management in nanosciences and industry. Apart from the English for specific purposes in science, the students will learn business English”, — said the Director of the Institute of Chemistry Irina Balova.

You can choose an education trajectory depending on the area you are interested in and planning to specialize in your career. The core material is theoretical and experimental studies on the mechanic properties of nanomaterials, development and research of new carbon nanomaterials, optical and laser nanobiotechnologies, and others.

The programme is also research-oriented enabling students to explore the matter with the leading scientists.

Apart from the lessons at the SPbU’s Research Park with its state-of-the-art equipment, the students have an opportunity to have internship in research or industry.

Konstantinov, Almazov National Medical Research Centre, Institute of Chemistry of Silicates of the RAS, Ostec, St Petersburg Cluster Development Centre St Petersburg Technopark, and others.

The programme aims at educating and preparing specialists to gain fundamental knowledge and develop skills for marketing, analysis and development of technologies to produce functional, composite nanomaterials, carbon, nanobiomaterials and products developed on them. All these instil important transferable skills that will serve you well, whatever your subsequent choice of career. You can enter professions such as medicine, chemical industry, or electronics to name but a few. Our graduates can go on to do research or further study.

On March 26, 2018, 17:10 p.m., you can see an on-line presentation of the Fundamental and Applied Aspects of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies. Learn more.
