Joint effort to save

SPbU is concerned with how science and technology can save cultural heritage, with a specific focus on what the natural sciences and humanities have jointly reached.
The International Conference “Heritage, Science, and Technologies”, as part of the VI International Cultural Forum, brings together experts from France, Italy, and Russia. “Although the Forum opens tomorrow, we start our conference today. This year, our section is more than ever full of various reports», — said Oleg Ryzhkov, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation. The conference is interdisciplinary in nature. “For me as a representative from the Ministry of Culture, it is important that our society should be well aware of what we are talking today. We underestimate integration between sciences and humanities. We could see breakthroughs in biology, chemistry, and physics. Now the projects that are interdisciplinary in nature and bring together humanities and science are on the rise”, — said Oleg Ryzhkov.
Earlier we divided people into lyrics and physicists, now the division is blurred. We should integrate them. It is vital. It is how we can shape our future.

All the experts who take part in the conference are high-calibre, said the Senior Vice-Rector for Research at SPbU Sergei Goncharov told in his opening speech. “Today we have the leading experts here: those who are concerned with diagnostics, technology development, conceptualization, methodology, both in theoretical and applied aspects. It can form the grounds for our efforts to preserve cultural heritage, especially when many artifacts are destroyed during the military operations. In this respect the mission of the Forum is unique”, — said Sergei Goncharov.
