Memorial plaque in gratitude to a sponsor mounted at St Petersburg University
St Petersburg University puts up plaques with the names of friends, partners and sponsors. Many of them are the University graduates, who support their Alma Mater. Others take part in the life of the University staff and students, develop cooperation, joint projects and sponsor changes for the better.
One of the plaques with the words of gratitude has appeared in the building of St Petersburg University in the 22nd Line of Vasilyevskii Island, where the students of law currently study. The plaque has the name of Aleksei Aleksandrov on it. In 1974, he graduated from Leningrad State University (currently, St Petersburg University), taught there, defended his Doctor’s dissertation and headed the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics at St Petersburg University from 1998 to 2021.
Due to the efforts of Aleksei Aleksandrov, various stands and displays were mounted next to the Department. Today, they feature many commemorative items of the Department including rare photographs, awards received by students and teachers, diplomas gained at Olympiads, cups gained at student competitions. Research publications by the scholars of St Petersburg University are also displayed there.
Aleksei Aleksandrov is a senator of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, a representative of the legislative (representative) body of the state authority in the Kaluzhskaya Region (2004-2020), Honoured Lawyer of the Russian Federation.
The tradition of expressing gratitude to sponsors has existed at St Petersburg University for many years. Thus, the reading hall of the library at the Faculty of Law features plaques with the names of people and organisations contributing specific publications and entire book collections to the library. In different years, the collection was enlarged due to Gerhard Schröder (Federal Chancellor of Germany in 1998-2005), Andrei Molchanov (Chairman of the Board of Directors, CEO of "LSR Group"), Igor Fedorov (CEO of "Gazprom Komplektatsiya" in 2006-2007).
St Petersburg University cooperates with commercial and state organisations, Russian and international companies, universities, employer representatives, graduates and everyone interested in innovation, science, modern education and project implementation together with one of the largest universities in Russia.
