A new specialisation ‘Interface Design’ at St Petersburg University: all about the profession of UX / UI designer
The specialisation of St Petersburg University ‘Interface Design: Design of Interactive System Interface’ is well-suited for both beginners and more experienced professionals who want to deepen their knowledge and improve the quality of the interface being designed.
Students will learn how to: design a website or application, making it not only visually beautiful, but also as convenient as possible; apply usability quality standards and perform heuristics on the interface; and tackle users’ problems.
Indeed, when visiting a website, users often face different problems: they click wrong buttons; miss the useful part of a website; and get confused in the menu maze. As a result, they do not choose this or that product or service or do not find the much-needed information either. Effective and user-friendly interfaces contribute to product experience, successful marketing, and sales.
The specialisation consists of four online courses, which are full-fledged disciplines: Introduction to UX / UI Design; UX-Strategy; Design, Management and Prototyping (UX / UI Design); and Usability Testing of Interactive Systems in UX / UI Design.
Students master the theoretical foundations and acquire basic skills in: using elements and components of graphic design; web design; using analysis tools; designing interactive systems; and describing the user according to the necessary criteria to name but a few. In addition, they get acquainted with recommendations and best practices from top practitioners in the field of UX / UI design who work for leading St Petersburg and Moscow companies.
Students have to successfully perform a hands-on project so that they complete the specialisation and receive a certificate which can be added to their portfolio.
The specialisation ‘Interface Design: Design of Interactive System Interface’ is being delivered on the international educational platform Coursera and is already available for registration.
