If you apply for medical residency programmes, you need to submit your application face-to-face in the Admissions Office from June 20 to July 7 and will have admissions tests on July 10-15.
In 2017, St Petersburg University will enroll for the first time students to the main post-graduate educational programmes according to the new rules and regulations as stipulated in the Order by the Ministry of Education and Science No 13 from January 12, 2017.
The University is entitled to have its own admissions tests and assessment criteria. In 2017, you are required to take a written or oral-written test or submit a portfolio in your principle subject depending on the course and take a foreign language test unless you already have test results. The University accepts international tests, SPbU tests or candidate tests.
Moreover, those who have won or have been awarded a prize at the final stage of the open Olympiad for students and young professionals “Petropolitan Science (Re)Search” can submit their results when applying for the course.
In 2017, the University offers 49 post-graduate courses and 28 medical residence programmes. It has also opened two new post-graduate courses: “History and Culture of Islam” and “Museum Source Studies”.
Most government-funded places (57 places) are allocated to the post-graduate course in Physics. In St Petersburg University, as a rule, sciences and IT are especially popular. Last year, Informatics and Computing Technologies took the lead with 157 applications for the government-funded places followed by Mathematics and Mechanics with 155 applications. The competition for the post-graduate course in Law was very high (4.33 applications per place), just as for the post-graduate course in Applied Mathematics and Control Processes (4.07 applications per place). The course is particularly popular as St Petersburg has a unique mathematics school: SPbU Chebyshev Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory, SPbU Centre for Genome Informatics, SPbU Centre for Game Theory, and SPbU Computing Centre. In 2013, the University entered in the QS rankings by subjects and started its collaboration with Skoltech. Among the outstanding mathematicians are SPbU’s alumni: Mikhail Gromov, Leonid Kantorovich, Grigorii Perelman, and Stanislav Smirnov.
Let us remind that in May 23, 2016 the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed an order to entitle SPbU and MSU to have thesis defenses and award their own degrees of Candidate of Sciences and Doctor of Sciences from September 1, 2016. Federal Law “On Science and State Research and Engineering Policy” was amended accordingly. According to the new rules and regulations, the University must form a Dissertation Council for each thesis defense. These Councils must comprise leading Doctors of Sciences in the field, including the experts who have gained international recognition, and it, as a consequence, means that students have the appropriate level of English language skills.
