Russian language in Greece: the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language exam outcome
The Language Testing Centre at St Petersburg University has tested Greek students in Russian as a foreign language. More than 200 people attended the ceremony to receive certificates that became available after the exam results were published.
Students in Greece always show an incredible interest in the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) and perform well every year. Dmitry Ptyushkin, Director of the Language Testing Centre at St Petersburg University, pointed out that 20% of the students who take the TORFL exams around the world and prove their fluency come from Greece. They are mostly young people studying Russian and seeking new educational and professional opportunities.
To date, the Language Testing Centre at St Petersburg University cooperates with 50 countries.
The ceremony also included the presentation of certificates to students in the History of Russia and Greece course. Such cultural events, held in today’s tense international relations, are particularly valuable for maintaining educational partnership between countries.
Since 2019, the Representative Office of St Petersburg University in Greece (Thessaloniki) has been working efficiently on the basis of the Centre of the Russian Language and Culture "Russian Word". The aim of the centre is to promote and support the Russian language abroad. For example, during the entire period of cooperation, more than 1,500 students have already passed the TORFL exams.
Since 2018, more than 27,000 people from 151 countries have participated in the International Online Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language of St Petersburg University.
Students from Greece actively participate in the International Online Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language of St Petersburg University. More than 150 applications were received this year.
