SPbU among the leading Russian universities in science and mathematics
St Petersburg University was ranked third among Russian universities for science and mathematics by the RAEX rating agency.
The ratings for science and mathematics, and engineering and technology are both available on the agency’s website.
The science and mathematics rating includes 50 universities, and the engineering and technology rating includes 70 universities, representing all federal districts of Russia. The rankings measure the competitiveness of the universities within the two groups of disciplines. Science and mathematics includes mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and basic earth sciences. Engineering and technology covers a wide range of engineering disciplines. The ranking placement is influenced by three factors: the demand for graduates in the labour market, the quality of education and the scientific output.
The RAEX ratings have been published annually since 2012. They are audited by the largest international accounting firm PwC, the IREG Observatory and the International Expert Council.
In the field of mathematics, the SPbU was ranked second for research activities and third for quality of education. The university was also ranked in the top 10 for engineering and technology.
The university runs a range of science, engineering and technology educational programmes, including machine learning, and artificial intelligence based on fundamental mathematics.
