SPbU among the top 100 universities worldwide

St Petersburg University has retained its place among the world’s top 100 universities for the second year in a row according to Times Higher Education. SPbU is in the 81-90 band by 2016 ranking. Over 10,000 academics’ views in a variety of research fields from 133 countries worldwide give insight into universities’ global reputation. The 2016 THE Academic Reputation Survey was from January till March. A necessary condition for academics to be eligible to shape the results of the survey is to be readers or professors with 15 years of experience and have publications in their research fields.

‘The fact that St Petersburg University retains its standing among the world’s top 100 universities is an important development for us, - said the SPbU Rector Prof. Nikolay Kropachev. – It means the University is recognised worldwide for excellence, as THE is based on an invitation-only survey of top academics who do not speak Russian. The way how Times Higher Education ranks the universities reflect how the world’s academic community regard the University. It is the most comprehensive and balanced comparison available. Our overarching priority is therefore to pursue excellence in education and research locally and globally and further establish our presence in the world’s academic community’.

Importantly, SPbU made its debut in THE in 2015 in the 71-80 band. The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings are published by Times Higher Education, a journal with a specific focus on higher education. The first reputation rankings were published in 2011. Each year the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings list only the top 100 universities, the second 50 universities ranked in bands of 10.
