SPbU Has Significantly Increased Its Webometrics Ranking
According to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities published February 1, 2016, St. Petersburg State University has increased its ranking by almost a hundred points, remaining in the second place among Russian universities.

The Webometrics ranking of St. Petersburg University has changed dramatically over the past years. If in 2010 St. Petersburg State University was in the 1058th place, in 2015 it was already 544th.
According to a recent study published in February, 2016, St. Petersburg State University's ranking has sky-rocketed by 92 points. Thus, it has entered the Top 500 list of world universities, holding the 452th place, well ahead of the competition, remaining in the second place among Russian higher education institutions.
"We are working hard on the optimisation of our information resources, and for the past few years we have been observing an increase in all international rankings, including Webometrics," said the Rector of St. Petersburg State University Nikolai Kropachev. "The value of one of the key ranking criteria, Impact and Visibility, has nearly doubled. Making such a breakthrough in one year, rising from the 650th to the 290th place in terms of this indicator, was possible thanks to our focused promotional policy on citation of the materials of the St. Petersburg University portal."
St. Petersburg State University has also improved its position in Openness, a criterion used to assess the level of accessibility of the archive of academic publications in the pdf format. According to this indicator, the university was in the 327th place in the ranking data published in early 2015. Now, it has risen by 42 points and holds the 279th place.
