SPbU is opening a representative office in the Republic of Korea
On May 23, St. Petersburg State University will open its foreign representative office in Seoul. The project will be implemented at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
The VIP guests at the opening ceremony will be Rector of SPbU Nikolai Kropachev, SPbU Deputy Rector for Foreign Affairs Sergey Andryushin, Head of SPbU Rector’s Office Maria Gusarova, and Director of the Directorate of the Russia — Republic of Korea Dialogue forum Inna Tsoi.
In Korea, the position of SPbU Representative Office Director (http://builder.hufs.ac.kr/user/spbupredstvo/) will be held by Kim Hyun Taek, Vice President for International Affairs at Hankuk University.
The main areas of work for the office will be organizing joint educational and research projects, holding academic conferences and other events for students and teachers from Korean universities, as well as promoting the Russian language, history and culture in Korea and the Korean language, history and culture in Russia.
Saint Petersburg State University is the largest center of Korean studies in Russia. The University has agreements with 18 universities and research organizations of the Republic of Korea. SPbU Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of Korea carries out a whole number of ambitious research projects jointly with the Korea Foundation and the Academy of Korean Studies. With every passing year, SPbU students show more and more interest in academic mobility programs with Korean partner universities of SPbU; at the same time, foreign internships at Korean universities now involve not only students specializing in Korean studies, but also those who study in the fields of sociology, international relations, management, journalism, history and economics.
Moreover, St. Petersburg State University provides organizational support for the Russia — Republic of Korea Dialogue civil society forum, which has been established as an international platform for discussing topical issues. The main objective of the Forum is to build a constructive dialogue between the representatives of the two countries and form a solid basis for Russian-Korean cooperation which would be independent of the current political situation.
