SPbU opens a representative office in Navoi
A grand opening of a new foreign representative office of St Petersburg University took place in the Navoi Free Economic Zone (the Republic of Uzbekistan). Since September it will held expert roundtables, online lectures, presentations of SPbU educational programmes, etc.
Sergey Andryushin, Deputy Rector for International Affairs of SPbU, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of Rector of St Petersburg University Nikolay Kropachev.
The opening of the representative office of St Petersburg University in the Navoi Free Economic Zone is an important step not only for strengthening cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. It is the first representative office of the University in the free economic zone, which will focus on technologies and knowledge transfer, commercialisation of scientific developments of St Petersburg University.

‘Residents of the Navoi Free Economic Zone are large companies, and the city-forming enterprise is the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company, the research centre of which has expressed interest in cooperation with St Petersburg University. Therefore, the University continues its policy of close partnership with employers, including in foreign projects’, noted Sergey Andryushin. During the opening ceremony, a presentation on history and potential of SPbU was shown.
The guests of the ceremony also have been given a speech by General Director of the Navoi Free Economic Zone (FEZ) Khabib Abdullayev, representatives of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, universities in the region (rectors of Bukhara State University and Bukhara Technological University), Rossotrudnichestvo representatives, and CEOs of Navoi FEZ companies.
The representative office of SPbU in Uzbekistan is the seventh foreign centre of the University. Now, representative offices of St Petersburg University operate in the Republic of Korea, China, Spain, Greece, Italy and Turkey.
The representative office of SPbU in Uzbekistan will be aimed at close cooperation with the corporate sector, strengthening scientific ties with universities in the region, promoting the Russian language, history and culture, developing academic exchanges and joint projects. It will host conferences, seminars, workshops, Russian scientists’ presentations, Russian language tests. In the autumn there will be delivered following lectures: "Artificial Intelligence and methods of using AI in modern industries", "Hydrogeology and modern practices for solving problems caused by exogenous and endogenous processes", "Influence of Central Asian countries" traditions on Russian culture», "Modern trends in landscape design". In the future, it is also planned to build SPbU Alumni Club and develop a St Petersburg University Ambassadors Programme.
