SPbU students reconstruct authentic sound of the musical instruments
The finalists of the “Start-Up SPbU” are developing a new, up-to-date interactive museum-encyclopedia on the virtual platform.
If you want to enter a museum hall in 3D with musical instruments, all you have to do is to wear a helmet of virtual reality. You can see, come and examine any of the instruments, know about its history and how it works. What is more, you can enjoy binaural sound of the instruments, that is a sound production technique ensuring that you can hear dimensional sound from anywhere.
All the members of the “TimeMelody” (with few exceptions) have already taken part in the contest. Iurii Bulavin Applied Mathematics) — a chief develop of the project, Ekaterina Kirianova (Management) — responsible for finance, Iulia Trushina (Applied Informatics) — 3D-developper, and Stefaniia Danilova (Philology) — PR- and HR-manager.
If you visit a project’s web-site timemelody.com, you can already see and hear some of the instruments from the museum: a bone flute, an Armenian duduk, which is inscribed on the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and a lyre. The first version of the museum was presented to the public at the city festival of high technologies, science and arts, and at the Festival of Knowledge at SPbU.
We believe that music should become more and more public available, — said PR-manager of the TimeMelody Stefaniia Danilova. — Few can visit museums with the ancient musical instruments, not to mention hear their sound. You don’t have to go to the museum and take to pieces an instrument to get to know how it works - TimeMelody will help you”.
The team has already been negotiating with a museum of music and looking for premises to show a demo-version of the project. Moreover, the students are going to collaborate with the musical schools and promote musical education among children and junior pupils. The team is also planning to launch an application for the helmets of VR for personal use.
“We want the project to develop, even if we don’t’ win. It is not an only start-up contest, although SPbU is a sign of quality and brand. And it is really an honour to win”, — said Stefaniia Danilova.
