Sergei Krivovichev was elected as a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin in physics, mathematics, and natural sciences for his outstanding achievements in mineral sciences and crystallography.
Founded in 1757 by a French mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange and located in the centre of Turin in the building where there is the Egyptian Museum, the Academy of Sciences of Turin had as its members D.I. Mendeleev, N.I. Koksharov, A.P. Karpinskii (the first president of the Academy of Sciences of the UUSR), I.I. Mechnikov, А. Е. Chichibabin, M.V. Ostrogradskii, and others.
“I was nominated for this honourable prize by Professor of Crystallography Giovanni Ferraris who SPbU has been long since successfully collaborating with in mineral sciences and crystallography, —said Sergei Krivovichev. — He is a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin, Accademia dei Lincei in Rome, and an honoured member of the Russian Mineralogical Society. Italian and Turin mineralogical and crystallographic schools are the world’s leading schools. Quintino Sella, an academician and 21st-century Italian politician, cherished the Italian traditions in mineral sciences and crystallography. The collaboration in research between the Italian and Russian scientists is more than ever on the rise as Russia has unique essay geological objects: alkaline reservoirs in the Kola Peninsula, Ilmen natural reserve, and other mineralogical sights in Ural, and volcanoes in Kamchatka”.
SPbU’s Professor Sergei Krivovichev is an only member in the Academy of Sciences of Turin who represents Russian scientific society. Now the scientist successfully balances his research, educational, and management responsibilities. “Recently, I have been essay writer mainly focused on my management responsibilities, and the fact that I have been elected as a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin is a reminder for me that science as our endeavours to discover the truth should be my major concern”, — said Sergei Krivovichev.
