St Petersburg University branch in Uzbekistan opens its doors for future students
The branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent has held the University Open Day. During the event, school students, their parents and final-year students of higher education institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan had the opportunity to find out about academic programmes offered by St Petersburg University and get detailed information about admission requirements, the application process and deadlines.
The event was opened by Artem Rubtsov, Deputy Head of the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent. Welcoming the guests, he noted that the implementation of the University division in the partner country contributes not only to improving the quality of education in Uzbekistan, but also to strengthening international ties between our countries, forming a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation in education and science. He emphasised the importance of St Petersburg University’s work in Tashkent for strengthening the University’s position as the flagship of higher education in Russia, providing students from Uzbekistan with educational services of the highest standards.
Opening the formal part of the event, Bakhodir Begalov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics and Head of the Council of the bachelor’s programme ‘International Business in the Digital Economy’, and Aleksandr Babich, Senior Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Admissions at St Petersburg University, stressed the significance of developing cooperation between the Russia Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of education.
Committed to developing partnerships with the Republic of Uzbekistan, St Petersburg University is expanding the list of academic programmes that the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent offers for the applicants from Uzbekistan. The 2024 admissions in five areas of study have already been announced.

Bakhodir Begalov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, expressed confidence that students studying at the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to become in-demand professionals, who will contribute to achieving a major breakthrough in high-tech sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan in future. "We have all the necessary conditions for organising student internships at the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics," Bakhodir Begalov added.

Aleksandr Bogdanov, Professor in the Department of Fundamental Informatics and Distributed Systems at St Petersburg University, and Alexey Rodionov, Senior Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Asian and African Studies at St Petersburg University, also addressed the audience at the University Open Day in Tashkent.
As part of the event, future students were told about the academic programmes offered at the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent in the 2024/2025 academic year. Mariana Gubina, Associate Professor in the Department of World Economy at St Petersburg University, made a presentation about the bachelor’s programme "International Business in the Digital Economy" and the master’s programme "International Entrepreneurship in the Digital Economy", underlining the advantages of the programmes and the demand for the graduates in the labour market.
Alexander Degtyarev, Professor in the Department of Computer Modelling and Multiprocessor Systems at St Petersburg University, presented the bachelor’s programme ‘Programming and Information Technology’. Professor Degtyarev stressed that the programme not only provides in-depth theoretical understanding of IT technology and areas of its application, but also focuses on practical skills necessary for building a successful career in the chosen field. Innokentii Karandashov, Associate Professor in the Department of International Law at St Petersburg University, spoke about the master’s programme "Private International Law", while Evgeny Osmanov, Associate Professor in the Department of Theory of Social Development of Asian and African Countries at St Petersburg University, presented the master’s programme "Contemporary China: Economy, Politics, Society".

Future applicants and event participants learnt about the academic and internship opportunities opened up for St Petersburg University students, and about career prospects for the University’s graduates. For these purposes, the branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent has signed cooperation agreements with government agencies and private companies, including: the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics; the Treasury Service Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan; the Uzcharmsanoat Association; and the Federation of Societies for Consumer Rights Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Lists of applicants who have passed the admissions tests (competitive selection of documents) will be published on the official website of St Petersburg University on or prior to 15 July 2024.
