St Petersburg University professors to tell students from Kaliningrad how law regulates artificial intelligence
St Petersburg University and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University have signed an agreement on implementing two joint degree programmes: the bachelor’s programme "Ecology and Nature Management" and the master’s programme "Artificial Intelligence and Law".
As part of this cooperation, students from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University mastering legal issues in artificial intelligence will study at St Petersburg University for one semester. They will study the uniquely designed courses developed by St Petersburg University experts, such as: "Legal Aspects in Computer Games Industry and Cybersports", "Security of Personal Data During Its Processing", and "Modern Approaches to Customer Privacy". Moreover, students from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University will have an opportunity to do pre-graduation practice at St Petersburg University.
I believe that our lecturers will be able not only to teach legal aspects of artificial intelligence to Emmanuel Kant Baltic Federal University students but also to foster in them a real enthusiasm about digital law issues in general. ‘St Petersburg University has accumulated extensive experience and expertise in the development of information technology and its legal support and maintenance. For many years, we have been studying legal aspects in this area: personal data protection; virtual space; and communication within it.
This year, we have launched the master’s programme "Information Law and Data Protection". The developers and lecturers of this programme will deliver their courses within the «network semester» to the students from Kaliningrad’, Sergei Belov, Dean of the Faculty of Law at St Petersburg University, pointed out.
St Petersburg University, the oldest university in Russia, was founded on 28 January (8 February) 1724. This is the day when Peter the Great issued a decree establishing the University and the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2024, St Petersburg University will celebrate its 300th anniversary.
Today, St Petersburg University is an internationally recognised centre for education, research and culture. The University enjoys the right to set its own academic standards, award its own diplomas and conduct thesis defences for academic degrees on its own terms. St Petersburg University implements more than 500 degree programmes of all levels of education, and more than 750 non-degree programmes. St Petersburg University scholars conduct research in almost all branches of knowledge.
Additionally, St Petersburg University together with Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is developing a joint programme in the field of study of ‘Ecology and Nature Management’. As part of the network interaction, students from both St Petersburg University and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University will do field practice; the St Petersburg University faculty will teach a number of disciplines at the educational platform of Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
The network format of the interaction between the universities will make it possible to combine the resources and efforts of the two educational institutions at the same time, i.e. to promote academic exchange of the faculty and students; develop joint online courses; place the students in joint internships; and conduct joint evaluation of teaching materials. Such an approach improves the quality of degree programmes and provides students with opportunities to learn from the leading researchers of the country.
