St Petersburg University scholars awarded by the President of Russia
Elena Kazakova, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy at St Petersburg University, has received the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd class. Rashida Orlova, Professor in the Department of Oncology, has been awarded the honorary title "Honoured Physician of the Russian Federation". The Executive Order on the award of state honours was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The awards were given for merits in research, pedagogy, education, training of highly qualified specialists and many years of conscientious work.
The Executive Order "On Awarding State Awards of the Russian Federation" No 629 dated 29 July 2024 is published on the website of the President of Russia.
Elena Kazakova, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education, Academic Director of the Centre for Development of Teacher Education of the Russian Academy of Education, heads the Institute of Pedagogy, which was established at St Petersburg University in 2018 on her initiative and has been training talented teachers, guideline developers, methodologists and designers of new education systems for the past six years. In 2021, the professor of St Petersburg University became a laureate of the Russian Professorial Assembly in the Professor of the Year category. In 2022, she was awarded the Medal of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation "For contribution to the establishment of a national policy in education". In 2023, she received the Medal for impeccable and distinguished services.
I belong to a generation that is convinced that the state is an institution that creates society to ensure its own well-being. For me, the State Prize is therefore a sign of public recognition that my life and work make someone happier. I am very grateful to the University for nominating me for the award. And I am happy that hundreds of people are pleased to see that I received this award.

Elena Kazakova is the author of more than 130 scholarly papers, but when asked which of her achievements she is most proud of, the scholar says that as a teacher, the answer is obvious: the achievements of her students, who fortunately often give her reason to be proud.
Rashida Orlova, Head of the Department of Oncology at St Petersburg University, author of more than 200 scholarly papers and seven patents for inventions, has been awarded the honorary title "Honoured Physician of the Russian Federation". The professor of St Petersburg University is the principal investigator of more than 100 international multicentre phase I-III trials and combines research and teaching activities with work in practical healthcare. Rashida Orlova is Chief Specialist in Clinical Oncology and Rehabilitation of the largest and oldest oncological hospital in the country with more than 800 beds for oncological patients — St Petersburg Clinical Oncology Centre.
"Oncology is a multifaceted science that can satisfy all the interests of a young specialist: there is genetics, morphology, surgery, therapy, and psychology — it is a huge amount of knowledge and directions in medicine. For any doctor, there is no greater satisfaction than to make a correct diagnosis, choose the right treatment and, as a result, give patients a long and good quality of life," said Rashida Orlova.
