TASS: Kneissl: Arms supplies to Kiev increase terrorist threat to Europe
The unchecked supply of Western weapons to Ukraine will lead to an increase in crime and the terrorist threat in Europe; the consequences could be worse than the Yugoslav wars. This opinion was expressed by the head of the SPbU G.O.R.K.I. Centre, energy analyst, professor and former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
"Personally, I do not believe that the war in Ukraine will turn to unconventional warfare. But Europe will have to face the consequences of an uncontrolled arms market in the eastern and central parts of the continent. This experience is going to be more bitter than even the aftermath of the Yugoslav wars. There will be more organised crime, more terrorism," she noted. Kneissl warned that both weapons sent to Kiev and mercenaries with combat experience would inevitably find their way back to their countries of origin.
In turn, those in Europe who call for peace are branded as traitors. "The EU has chosen tanks, not negotiations. It favours increasing the flow of arms to Ukraine, or at least facilitating their transit (as neutral Austria is doing, unlike some NATO members). These days the diplomatic approach can be found in Turkey and the People’s Republic of China," the former Austrian foreign minister added.
