Our advantages
  • The programme is a new type of master's programme. It is unique both for St Petersburg University and for the entire educational system of Russia. Under the existing agreement between St Petersburg University and the Sorbonne, students will have an opportunity to study at St Petersburg University and the Sorbonne. Upon completion, they will receive diplomas of both universities
  • The programme is unique and novel for the market of educational services. Students will study French philosophy and Russian philosophical thought in their interaction and mutual influence and the active acquisition of material in line with two relevant educational paradigms – Russian and French. This will make it possible to master the leading European paradigms of today’s thoughts in the context of modern epistemic and social strategies of humanitarian knowledge in itself. Students will also master the professional competencies necessary for research and teaching activities in various areas of social and humanitarian education, science and art
  • The relevance of the programme is associated with the necessity to conceptualise philosophical thought in Russia and France in the context of the history of the European identity evolution. This will solve a qualitatively new class of humanitarian tasks determined by the sociocultural situation in Russia, France and the world. Special attention is paid to designing and testing new active and interactive forms of training: research workshops; research and practice seminars; and various types of extracurricular practices in order to simulate the conditions of students’ future professional activities
  • The programme combines theoretical and practical training and is practice-oriented
  • There is an opportunity to take part in academic mobility programmes and successfully pursue studies and academic careers at the world’s top universities
  • The programme provides training for experts whose knowledge, skills and abilities can be adequately applied to: various fields of social and humanitarian activities; state, public and commercial organisations; and all areas where there is a demand for specialists who are able to solve creatively challenges using the cutting-edge research, analytical, educational and communication technologies
Key skills

Graduates of the programme have:

  • knowledge of: the essence and features of Russian and French philosophical traditions; current issues and trends of practical use of philosophical knowledge; sociocultural factors of the emergence, existence and development of Russian and French philosophical thought; and specific features of shaping culture, worldview and the system of values in their historical dimension and their impact on human beingness in the contemporary sociocultural and political situation in Russia and France
  • the ability to: carry out research into significant scientific challenges in philosophy using of various theoretical and methodological approaches; use the categorical nomenclature of the humanities and social sciences, with the specifics of the phenomena studied taking into account
  • the ability to: make sociocultural reviews and forecasts; carry out expert assessments in philosophy and intercultural collaboration; design and implement philosophically sound programmes for communication between French and Russian state and non-state institutions; design course syllabi; deliver lectures; give seminars; monitor knowledge acquisition; and supervise practical training and academic and research activities of students

Our advantages
  • ‘Double-degree’ academic programmes of St Petersburg University are implemented jointly with partner organisations, including foreign ones, under international interuniversity agreements. According to the programme, students enrol in each of the partner organisations and, upon completion, they are awarded degrees (qualifications) of the universities of the two countries with the issuance of relevant documents on higher education (diploma of St Petersburg University and diploma of the partner university)
  • Admission to any of these 'joint programmes’ is open, accessible and available to everybody. The conditions for admission are the same for everyone. They are set out in the Regulations for Admission and published on the St Petersburg University website. The only limiting factor is the set number of places for admission. Additionally, for applicants for ‘double-degree’ programmes, there is often an internal ‘qualifying competition’, the terms of which are established in an agreement with the foreign partner university
  • To intensify and institutionalise this work, St Petersburg University issued the local normative act ‘On Approving Methodological Recommendations for the Preparation of Agreements on Cooperation in the Implementation of Academic Programmes with Foreign Partners’. Draft guidelines were issued for organising networking cooperation in the implementation of academic programmes at St Petersburg University
Career opportunities
  • Training comprises educational, pedagogical and research practice at the University. As part of the practical training students: teach independent classes; master educational methods; carry out research in the field of French and Russian philosophy; and acquire skills of analytical work including the preparation of expert opinions in social sciences and humanities
  • Having mastered the programme graduates can be employed: in research and educational institutions; as experts, managers and consultants in social sciences and humanities; and as advisors in the sphere of interpersonal and social interactions in government institutions and private companies
