Programme description

The undergraduate degree programme in Malay and Indonesian Philology (with the additional qualification «Specialist in the field of translation») provides students with a holistic understanding of the linguistic, cultural, political, economic, social, ethnic, confessional, literary, and other characteristics of the region, with a parallel and comprehensive study of the Indonesian and Malay languages
The educational programme is aimed at applicants who wish to build a successful career in the leading educational, scientific and cultural institutions of the Russian Federation, in Russian state organisations and private companies cooperating with the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia
In addition, graduates of the programme will be awarded the qualification of «Specialist in the field of translation»

Students have access to unique electronic resources in Russian, Eastern and Western languages, as well as to the faculty branch of the Gorky Scientific Library. The Gorky Scientific Library has a collection of more than 300,000 volumes of scientific, educational and periodical literature, as well as fiction in all languages of the regions studied, a collection of old manuscripts and woodcuts, rare and unique books and lithographs
Graduates can apply to Master’s programmes at the SPbU Faculty of Oriental Studies and other Russian and foreign universities
