Programme description
- The undergraduate degree programme «Languages, History and Culture of Ancient Egypt (Egyptology)» provides students with the ability to work with material, written, pictorial, and other monuments of the history and culture of the ancient Egyptian civilisation, and cultivates in students a holistic scientific understanding of the ethno-cultural, socio-economic, political, and ideological development of this region in antiquity. The programme provides for the mastery of the system and varieties of Egyptian script, all stages of the development of the Egyptian language, as well as the study of other ancient and modern languages of the Middle East (Hebrew, Arabic, etc.)
- The programme is aimed at those who wish to build a successful career in various departments of Russian and foreign cultural, scientific, and educational institutions as researchers and publishers of ancient Egyptian cultural monuments, teachers of languages, history, and art of the ancient East, museum specialists (curators of collections, curators of permanent and temporary exhibitions, authors of catalogues), experts in work with written and pictorial monuments of antiquity kept in museum and private collections, as well as participants in international projects on the application of digital technologies to ancient texts and artefacts (Digital Humanities: Digital Approaches to the Ancient World)
- In addition, graduates of the programme will be awarded the qualification of «Specialist in the field of translation»

The Gorky Scientific Library has a collection of more than 300,000 volumes of scientific, educational and periodical literature, as well as fiction in all languages of the regions studied, a collection of old manuscripts and woodcuts, rare and unique books and lithographs.
