The coals thereof are coals of fire: selected works by Alexander Kuprin
SPbU Representative Office in Spain cordially invites you to the online lecture "The coals thereof are coals of fire: selected works by Alexander Kuprin". The lecture will be given by Nina Scherbak, candidate of philology.
Alexander Kuprin was born on 7 September 1870 in the town of Narovchat, Penza province, and would go on to live a life full of both joy and tragedy. The writer kept himself busy with the various occupations of a literary man — journalism, translation, editorial work. Having immigrated to France following the Revolution, he returned to his homeland in 1937, becoming the only one of the great Russian emigrant writers to return to the USSR.
In our lecture you will find out what place Alexander Kuprin occupies today among the great Russian writers, what kind of people make up his readership, how realism in his works is linked to symbolism, and which rumours about Kuprin are most likely to be true.
