Kazimir Malevich. The end of painting — black on white
SPbU Representative Office in Spain invites you to an online lecture "Kazimir Malevich. The End of Painting — Black on White". The lecture will be delivered by Anna Nikitina, Senior Lecturer at the Design Department of St Petersburg University.
For his innovative approaches, radical ideas and bold rejection of traditional art forms, Kazimir Malevich is considered a key figure in the Russian avant-garde of the early 20th century. But who was this man really: a provocative scandal-maker or a thinker and innovator?
During our session we will explore different periods of the artist’s work, analysing changes in his relationship with subject, colour and form. We will discuss the phenomenon of the famous painting «Black Square» and discover why this simple geometric shape on a white background, something that even a child could paint, is considered an icon of avant-garde art in Russia.
You will also learn about "Recipe Still Lifes", the basis of Malevich’s pedagogical system, and the impact this system had on the development of the Russian school of design.
