University Courtyards: exploring architecture and sculpture at Vasilievsky campus
St Petersburg University conducts weekly guided walking tours "University Courtyards: Exploring Architecture and Sculpture at Vasilievsky Campus".
The university courtyards tour introduces the historic 18th-19th century buildings of Vasilyevsky Island Campus (including the Twelve Collegia Building, Rector’s Wing, Jeu de Paume Building, the Collegia of Emperor Alexander II, and Peter II Palace), as well as the Park of Modern Sculpture opened in 2002. The monuments in the university park present sculptors’ distinctive interpretations of well-known literary narratives and historical events. You will meet ’Reflections on The Little Prince‘, ‘The Bench for Advices’, ’Fountain of Love: Romeo and Juliet‘, ’Brodsky Arrived‘, ‘Gulliver’ and ‘V. Nabokov’, among others. Beyond these contemporary artworks, you can explore the architectural exteriors within the university courtyards, featuring the historic Peter II Palace alongside Russia’s first student dormitory and sports hall.
