Masters of Non-Conformist Art' series by Evgenii Orlov, 'The Aboveground and the Earthly'
This exhibition is by Evgenii Orlov, a well-known St Petersburg artist, a prominent contemporary representative of Russian cosmism, the founder and president of the Pushkinskaya-10 Art Centre.
The core theme of Evgenii Orlov’s artistic world is the image of transforming, untold Light. Continuing the traditions of Russian avant-garde, Kazimir Malevich, the artist primarily relies on the spiritual legacy of Northern Thebaid, the land of Belozersky monasteries that preserve the image of primordial light-bearing purity. This primary beauty is glorified in the paintings of Evgenii Orlov, who tries to look beyond the boundaries of the present-day space. He does not leave the ground of objectivity. However, he transfers the realities of our world to the dimensions of eternity, where forms become generalised, freeing themselves from all that is going on.
