Read where you bookmark
14 February 2023
International Book Giving Day. Online exhibition "Read where you bookmark".
The exhibition focuses on the bookmarks and notes of professors and students.
Bookmarks are an essential part of reading a book or writing a summary. The first mass-produced bookmarks appeared in the middle of the 19th century, but became widespread only towards the end of the century. Bookmarks featured congratulations, wishes to friends and relatives, and expressions of gratitude. More often than not, students did not have bookmarks, rather they used what was at hand or in their pocket. It could be ordinary torn sheets, business cards, or even a plucked flower.
