Tishchenko — the first director of the Mendeleev Study and his first biographer
Tishchenko was an outstanding scientist, student of Butlerov, Dmitri Mendeleev’s favourite and faithful assistant, who devoted much time and effort to perpetuating Mendeleev’s memory. He took part in the preparation and work of all Mendeleev Congresses, devoted a lot of effort to the organisation of the Mendeleev Study, became its first director (now the SPbU Dmitri Mendeleev Museum and Archives), and was one of the first biographers of the scientist.
An outstanding lecturer and leader who devoted most of his life to the University.
He was exceptionally devoted to the cause of uniting the chemists of our country; his long and unparalleled activity in the Russian Chemical Society earned him deep respect and appreciation.
The exhibition presents photographs, documents, books from the collections of the Dmitri Mendeleev Museum and Archives (Tishchenko’s private collection).
