‘University at War. 1941-1945’ exhibition opening
St Petersburg University will hold the exhibition ‘University at War. 1941-1945’. The exhibition presents unique materials and documents from collections of St Petersburg University History Museum, many of which are being made publicly available for the first time. The exhibition also incorporates findings from historical research conducted by the University scholars and memoirs of the University staff and students who were veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition will feature informational posters combining graphics and texts about Leningrad State University and the city of Leningrad on the eve of war, defence and science in the besieged city, preservation and development of academic schools, the challenges of continuing education during wartime, the University’s evacuation to Saratov and Yelabuga, the return of academic staff and students to Leningrad in spring-summer 1944 and post-war reconstruction.
The exhibition ‘University at War: 1941—1945’ serves to honour those who studied and worked at the University during wartime, commemorating the darkest challenges and brightest acts of heroism of the wartime period, showcasing the strength of human spirit. Through personal belongings and archival materials, the exhibition reveals how individual lives intersected with world-changing historical events.
The event will be attended by: Anastasia Yarmosh, Senior Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Partnership at St Petersburg University, Professor Igor Tikhonov, Faculty Member at St Petersburg University, Nikolai Tyutyunnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Karavai Group of Companies, Aleksandr Maslikov, Director of the Military Training Centre at St Petersburg University.
