"Art Practice: Painting" — a series of online courses to kickstart your creativity
Creativity is a skill that every aspiring artist can and should cultivate. This is the goal of SPbU’s new online programme Art Practice: Painting.
The author of the programme — Olga Gurina, a senior lecturer at the SPbU (Department of Design) — has been developing her method of creative watercolour painting for over 20 years and has successfully applied it in teaching graphic design students.
The programme consists of two courses of six modules each.
You can register for individual courses or the whole programme by clicking on the following links:
In the Polychrome Painting course, students begin by learning the basics: how to hold a brush correctly, prepare the workspace, handle water and paint. They will then learn how to create a composition, the illusion of volume, chiaroscuro and much more. To complete the course, students will paint a realistic still life in watercolour, following all the rules of academic art.
The Creative Painting Techniques course provides the chance to experiment with unique materials and tools. It teaches abstract thinking and encourages looking beyond traditional painting methods. During the course, students will create five distinct pieces using various creative techniques. These pieces will then be compiled into a portfolio.
The programme will be particularly useful for aspiring designers and design students, but will also be of interest to anyone who wants to learn the basics of painting — classical or not — or improve their skills.
