The increased influence of technologies on various fields of industry and production calls on today’s professionals to effectively solve engineering and application problems related to the use of world-class software systems. St Petersburg University trains personnel in this field, using its rich academic traditions and teaching the requisite applied skills.

The consolidated group of academic fields ‘Physics and Astronomy’ includes bachelor’s programmes that offer students an opportunity to receive fundamental knowledge in physics, applied mathematics, programming and other fields.

One of the key benefits of studying in these fields is the interdisciplinary approach.  Included in the curriculum are courses in various fields of contemporary science that will help students to receive a sound academic background by the time they graduate and to be competitive on the market.

It should be noted that the training of specialists in the Physics and Astronomy programmes at St Petersburg University is carried out on the basis of the leading scientific schools in Russia.  Among the teachers are well-known specialists and scholars in various fields of knowledge.  Graduates will be able to continue their studies in master’s programmes and engage in advanced scientific research.

In these programmes, special attention is paid to the applied skills necessary for work in the field of physics, engineering and technology.  Graduates will have career opportunities in the priority areas of scientific and technological development in Russian industry.

Students will: become acquainted with the methods of processing and transmitting different kinds of information; master the latest methods of solving engineering and practical problems; and, looking ahead, be able to work at large companies producing high-tech, knowledge-intensive products.  For those students who are interested in computer and information technology, courses in programming are included in the curriculum.

Please note that most of SPbU programmes are taught completely in Russian.
You can get ready for admission by applyiing on Preparatory Course or take a course of Russian as a Foreign Language.

The bachelor’s programmes in the consolidated group of academic fields ‘Physics and Astronomy’ are the following:

  • Applied Physics and Mathematics
