Experts from the St Petersburg University Clinic share their best practices with colleagues from the Republic of Mordovia
Leading specialists from the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies at St Petersburg University have organised and held an interregional interdisciplinary scientific and practical conference titled "Continuity is the Key to Success in Surgery". This event took place at the Republican Clinical Hospital named after Sergei Katkov in Saransk.
The conference was attended by heads of surgical medical departments and various doctors, including surgeons, oncologists, gynaecologists, gastroenterologists, and endoscopists.

Aleksandr Belousov, Deputy Director of the Medical Part (Oncology and Surgery), Surgeon, Oncologist, made a presentation at the conference. It was dedicated to the use of innovative techniques in the treatment of hernias. He also conducted a masterclass in the laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh technique (IROM+). The operation to install a new Russian mesh endoprosthesis, FTOREX, was performed on a patient with a recurrence of a previously operated umbilical hernia.
Kirill Shostka, Head of Oncology Department No 2, Oncologist, informed the conference participants about the surgical treatment of pelvic tumours in a report titled "Pelvic Tumours: Who Does What and Where?"
Nikolai Mankevich, Oncologist Surgeon at Oncology Department No 2, shared with colleagues the peculiarities of routing patients with colorectal cancer in his report "Colorectal Cancer: What Should be Done on the Spot, and What Should be Done in the Federal Centre Hospital?"
Nikita Kharlov, Head of Gynaecology Department, Oncologist, highlighted the specifics of pain syndrome treatment in the postoperative period in his presentation "Multimodality in the Management of Postoperative Pain Syndrome in Patients After Laparoscopic Myomectomy".
Vladimir Malkov, Head of Endoscopy Department, Endoscopist, made an online presentation titled "Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment of Early Tumours of the Gastrointestinal Tract: Is There a Single Standard for Everyone?"
Speakers from medical institutions in Mordovia, Moscow, and St Petersburg discussed the specifics of surgical medical care in the Republic of Mordovia during their presentations. They addressed issues related to the diagnosis and routing of gastroenterological patients, priority areas in the development of surgical gastroenterological services, and the advantages of one-day surgery.
The conference enabled experts to share best practices of the leading federal clinic with their colleagues from Mordovia, thereby contributing to the enhancement of doctors’ professional skills and the quality of surgical medical care in the region.
