St Petersburg University launches new scientific media project The Boson of Meaning
St Petersburg University has launched a new science communication initiative entitled The Boson of Meaning — a discussion show providing a platform for live conversations on scientific achievements and their role in shaping the future of humanity. The project brings together students, doctoral students, and early-career researchers to engage with some of the most relevant and promising research areas aimed at improving quality of life.

The aim of The Boson of Meaning is to make science more accessible and engaging, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and offering clear explanations of complex concepts. The audience will be introduced to cutting-edge discoveries with real-world impact, including highlights from key research projects carried out at St Petersburg University.
Programme topics include chemistry, artificial intelligence, biology, and other fields central to scientific progress.
The first guest on the show was Irina Timofeeva, Professor at St Petersburg University, Member of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for Science and Education, and recipient of the Russian President’s Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists. Viewers had the opportunity to get to know one of the University’s leading scientists, learning about her personal story and gaining insight into her scientific contributions.
Professor Timofeeva’s research focuses on the development of novel designer solvents for diverse analytical chemistry applications, as well as green analytical methods for use in both domestic and industrial contexts. The research team under her leadership is currently implementing a new project titled ‘Search, synthesis and application of the latest generation of extraction solvents to create new effective methods for the chemical analysis of complex samples’.
Roman Gerasimov, a graduate of St Petersburg University, is the creator and moderator of the project. A member of the Academy of Russian Television and a TEFI award winner, he also serves as Head of Information Projects at RBK Petersburg and works as a television presenter.
