Fundamental training in St Petersburg University master’s programmes: Computer technology, artificial intelligence and Big Data
The master’s programmes of St Petersburg University in the area of computer science and IT are based on modern and advanced technologies. These are cloud computing, Big Data, Hadoop, and blockchain. Upon successful completion of the training at the University, future experts will be proficient in engineering disciplines, design, development and effective implementation of software, artificial intelligence systems and Big Data.
A wide range of training courses will help students build an individual educational trajectory and major in various fields. Introduction to artificial intelligence, neural networks, algorithmic foundations of information processing, and numerical methods for solving complex problems are programme disciplines that form the necessary general competencies.
Students also work with modern computer architectures (Blue Gene, Ultra SPARC, GP GPU) and can choose special courses: from compilation theory and operating system design to machine learning and computer vision.
Significant attention is paid to research work. In practice, master’s students develop an original mathematical apparatus based on fundamental knowledge, the latest methods and computational algorithms. They also solve problems related to the development of new areas and methods of computer technology application. The focus is on both academic and industrial tasks. The theoretical classes are complemented by practical ones at the University IT Clinic and the University SAP Competence Centre. Partner organisations from technological fields are also involved. Internships are held at the sites of the largest leading companies in the information technology industry: Yandex, Sberbank Technology, Huawei, IBM, HP, and others.
Graduates are versatile researchers who are able to: apply their knowledge to solve urgent problems; create truly high-tech software; conduct research projects at a high level; and engage in experimental design activities. In particular, these areas include analytics, architecture and development of special systems and software, testing in the field of information technology and many other areas.
Please note that most of SPbU programmes are taught completely in Russian.
You can get ready for admission by applyiing on Preparatory Course or take a course of Russian as a Foreign Language.
