The Minister of Justice presents the University students with a medal "For Excellence in Studies"
During the 12th St Petersburg International Legal Forum, students at St Petersburg University have been presented with a departmental award from the Russia’s Ministry of Justice.
The Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Chuychenko, presented the medals "For Excellence in Study" to the best students of law universities and areas of study.
The award for academic achievements, participation in research projects and social activities was received by bachelor’s student Antonina Petrova. Antonina completed her 3rd year of the bachelor’s programme "Law (with Advanced Studies in Chinese Language and Law)". This year, she won a scholarship of the Anatoly Sobchak Foundation. As part of the St Petersburg University team, she took second place in the 15th Martens Contest in International Humanitarian Law. Additionally, she and her co-author are the winner of the annual contest ‘My Bill’, organised by the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg.
The departmental award of the Ministry of Justice of Russia was presented to 29 bachelor’s and master’s students from 15 leading universities that prepare specialists in the field of law.
"It is a great honour for me to be nominated for a departmental medal from the Ministry of Justice. The award in the year of the 300th anniversary of the University has special significance. I am grateful to our alma mater for the trust," Antonina Petrova shared her impressions after the ceremony.
The Ministry of Justice medal was also awarded to St Petersburg University postgraduate student Daria Fatalieva. Being a postgraduate student, she also teaches and coaches the University teams to participate in contests in the format of gaming trials in international investment law. She is also working on her thesis on the topic "Legal Principles in Judicial Argumentation".
"Although legal principles represent one of the classic questions of legal theory, there is no uniform methodology for the interpretation and application of legal principles in judicial argumentation, which results, on the level of practice, in legal uncertainty. In this regard, the subject of my scientific work is the study of practiced methods of working with legal principles, taking into account modern approaches to the interpretation of law," she said.
Receiving the award is very honourable, especially in the year of the University’s 300th anniversary: "The fact that the successes of students and postgraduate students are celebrated at such a high level is very valuable and motivates us to take further steps in science", said Daria Fatalieva.
