MosIUR: SPbU ranks 49th globally
Saint Petersburg University has secured a place in the "Three University Missions" global ranking, only surpassed by Moscow State University among Russian institutions. SPbU has also earned a spot in the top 50 best universities worldwide.
In 2024, the ranking encompassed 2,000 universities from 112 countries, including 152 from Russia. Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg University consistently hold their top positions within the Russian sector.
The MosIUR, or "Three University Missions" ranking, evaluates the three core missions of a university: education, research, and societal impact. It is compiled using data from independent sources such as leading online education platforms, global search engines, social networks, international science olympiads, and more. Since 2017, this ranking has been issued by the Russian Rectors’ Union under the directive of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Saint Petersburg University is a world-class research, educational, and cultural centre. It currently offers over 500 educational programmes, and more than 800 additional educational programmes. The university is also a leader in online education, with over 500 open online courses attracting a global audience of more than 4,000,000 learners.
The SPbU Research Park, a unique shared-use facility, provides researchers and students from SPbU and other organisations with access to state-of-the-art equipment. The Park houses 22 operational research centers, organised around the main research priorities of the SPbU Development Programme, including "Nanotechnologies and Materials Science", "Biomedicine and Human Health", "Ecology and Rational Nature Management", and "Information Systems and Technologies". In terms of equipment and technological capabilities, the SPbU Research Park is unparalleled in Russia, and in some aspects it is unique in the world.
Furthermore, the university adheres to an open-access principle, welcoming visitors to explore its extensive museum collections, which comprise approximately 3,000,000 items and are utilised for research, education, and guided tours.
