The number of the Youth Chinese Test grows to a record number at St Petersburg University
The number of the Youth Chinese Test has grown to a record 80 children aged 5 to 15 years. This number has doubled compared to the last year. The test was conducted by the Language Testing Centre at St Petersburg University.
The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is an international standardised Chinese language test for children under 15.
‘Language testing is not only about assessing the user’s language skills, but also about career guidance. When children take the YCT at St Petersburg University, they get to know the University and gain a lasting impression of the University,’ says Dmitry Ptyushkin, Director of the St Petersburg University Language Testing Centre. Pragmatic parents today are committed to teaching their children Chinese to prepare them for academic and career opportunities with Chinese universities and business partners in future, he added.
Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi is a standardised test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers and an internationally recognised qualification in Chinese.
The St Petersburg University Language Testing Centre offers Chinese tests four times a year. During the May session of the HSK, there were 430 test-takers. According to Dmitry Ptyushkin, this year the number of test-takers is predicted to significantly increase compared to the past. Since the beginning of the year, 900 people have passed the test. In 2022, there were 800 test-takers at the Language testing Centre at St Petersburg University.
