SPbU announces start of new enrolment for international students

New enrolment for international students at St. Petersburg State University starts on February 1. More than 300 government-funded places will be available for international applicants this year.

Admission quotas for government-funded places available to international students are granted to universities that fall under the jurisdiction of the RF government; apart from St. Petersburg State University, these also include Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. SPbU has established its leadership among these educational establishments with regard to the number of government-funded places available to international students.

The competition for SPbU educational programs is open to all foreign citizens, stateless persons, and Russian citizens currently living abroad, who hold qualifications enabling them to continue their education and enrol in a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or a doctoral program. This year SPbU expects applications from entrants living in 90 countries of the world. Every year the geographic reach of SPbU international admissions is expanded. Currently St. Petersburg State University has almost 1000 international students enrolled to government-funded places.

The most popular educational programs among bachelor’s degree and specialist’s degree entrants include General Medicine, International Relations, Law, Linguistics, and Journalism. The most popular masters programs today are Management, Economics, and Philology, as well as the already mentioned Linguistics and International Relations.

In order to take part in the competition for an educational program, the applicant needs to register a personal account of a university entrant on the SPbU website, and write a letter of motivation and an admission essay on the topic specified for his/her particular field of study. The applicant can also enclose his or her portfolio containing a description of the planned research topic, copies of academic publications and a CV.

The application process will close on June 15, 2017; the admissions decisions will be known on July 17, and courses will start on September 1.

The list of educational programs open for international students, as well as the admission essay topics, can be found on the University website.
