SPbU made its debut in BRICS Network University

Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has approved a list of 12 leading institutions of higher education to enter BRICS Network University from Russia – SPbU among them.

BRICS Network University is an international association that aims to develop joint educational programmes, academic mobility programmes and research programmes.

The main founding document was signed on November 18, 2015 by Ministers of Education from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and RSA. ‘Memorandum of Understanding for Establishment of the BRICS Network University’ allows 12 universities from each country to enter the Network University and the Ministry of Education in each country is to prepare a list of university-participants.

On February 10, 2015, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation approved a list of 12 universities to enter the educational projects, including two universities from St Petersburg – St Petersburg University among them.

Importantly, SPbU had created a working group to identify goals and priorities in implementing joint educational programmes with foreign BRICS universities. In November 2015, University of Johannesburg paid an official visit to SPbU with a particular focus on cooperation through BRICS Network University’s programmes.

BRICS Network University is a joint educational project initiated by the BRICS countries that aims to unite the universities of five countries and is committed to those who are to form a new generation of highly-qualified professionals willing to develop strong analytical abilities and rigor, to be able to criticize and reason logically, to solve problems in economy and society through an indirect and creative approach, to develop strong communication skills in diverse and multinational environment, and to combine the traditional side of the discipline with the technical side of data and science.

The project aims to:

  • excel education and prepare highly qualified professionals for economic activities in the partner-countries;
  • promote a united educational space between the partner-countries;
  • develop academic mobility between countries;
  • combine recourses in research.
