St Petersburg University becomes the leading university in the number of online courses on the Open edX platform
When most people spend time in lockdown, and students around the world study remotely, St Petersburg University does everything possible to make the unique academic resources of the University accessible to everyone. On 10 May, 10 new online courses of St Petersburg University will be launched. So, the number of courses from St Petersburg University on only one online platform will be 111. The University is currently the leader in educational content on the national platform ‘Open edX’.
‘During these serious times, the University sees its educational mission as providing an opportunity to as many people as possible who decide to take to self-studying. They will have access to the unique knowledge accumulated within the walls of St Petersburg University, and listen to lectures delivered by University professors,’ said Vladimir Starostenko, the director of the Centre of E-Learning Development.
Among the new online courses from St Petersburg University are: ‘Computer Architecture’; ‘Introduction to Solid Mechanics’; ‘Introduction to Cybernetic System Theory’; ‘Mathematical Game Theory’; ‘Methodological Problems of Psychology’ (in two parts); ‘General Issues in Anatomic Pathology’; ‘Corporate Economics’; ‘Fundamentals of Business Taxation in Russia’; and ‘Legal Regulation of Business in Russia’.
In response to the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic, St Petersburg University has been providing free access to its e-learning resources to students from all over Russia. It should be noted that since this started, more than 10,000 people have signed up for online University courses. Students from 57 Russian universities have sent requests for credits from St Petersburg University online courses as disciplines of their educational institutions. Moreover, their number keeps growing.
