St Petersburg University enters the world’s top 100 universities in petroleum engineering according to the QS World University Rankings
Quacquarelli Symonds has first added three new subjects to the World University Rankings by Subject 2020: Geology, Geophysics, and Petroleum Engineering. According to published data, St Petersburg University has entered the 51–75 group of the world’s top 100 universities in petroleum engineering.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject has been published since 2011 by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The compilers of the ranking now evaluate the activities of the world's top universities in 51 subjects, combined in five areas of knowledge: Arts & Humanities; Engineering & Technology; Life Sciences & Medicine; Natural Sciences; and Social Sciences & Management.
The QS subject ranking methodology is based on four indicators: academic reputation; employer reputation; research citations per paper article in relevant journals; and the University H-index with a sufficient number of publications and reviews of the academic community and employers. It should be noted that in Petroleum Engineering, St Petersburg University showed high points for research citations.
For reference: St Petersburg University takes 225th place in the QS World University Rankings 2021. It is a prestigious ranking published by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds last June. In just one year, the University has moved up nine places in the ranking.
At present, St Petersburg University implements academic programmes in Petroleum Engineering. They are Bachelor’s (including for international students in English) and Master’s programmes. Their graduates are able to solve complex tasks in the field of exploration and development of natural hydrocarbon deposits. This includes those with unconventional and hard-to-recover reserves. Graduates are ready to participate in work in: industries related to the extraction of hydrocarbons; scientific laboratories; and computer centres during research and production activities.
