St Petersburg University opens Centre for Modern Educational Technologies and Humanities in Belarus

St Petersburg University’s second foreign office in the Union State has been inaugurated at the Belarusian-Russian University in Mogilev. The Centre’s activities will focus on fostering international academic, research, and technological cooperation, promoting the Russian language and culture, and advancing the export of educational services.
Sergey Andryushin, Acting Vice-Rector for International Affairs of St Petersburg University, highlighted the significance of the event for both institutions. He also noted that December 2024 marked the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State.
The proposal to establish the Belarusian-Russian Centre for Modern Educational Technologies and Humanities was initially made in the spring of 2023.
"Belarus is an ally and strategic partner not only for Russia as a whole, but also for St Petersburg University. Our countries are connected by deep traditions, cultural commonalities, a shared historical past, and aligned orientations for the future," said Sergey Andryushin.
Mikhail Lustenkov, Rector of the Belarusian-Russian University, expressed hope that the joint centre would serve as a vital platform for collaboration between the two universities. He emphasised that it would contribute to the development of educational partnerships and further cultural rapprochement between St Petersburg and Mogilev.
Currently, St Petersburg University has established 12 representative offices and centres worldwide, located in countries such as Korea, China, Spain, Greece, Italy, Uzbekistan, Iran, Libya, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus. These centres focus on promoting the Russian language, history, and culture, strengthening academic exchanges, and fostering joint scientific and educational projects.
The Belarusian-Russian University is an interstate scientific and educational centre located in Mogilev, Republic of Belarus. In accordance with the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Russia, signed on 19 January 2001, the university was transformed into a state institution of higher professional education under the name "Belarusian-Russian University."
Traditionally, preserving historical memory and promoting shared history have been key aspects of cooperation within the Union State. For instance, joint events are already being planned to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II in 2025.
