St Petersburg University to prepare lawyers jointly with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan
The branch of St Petersburg University and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document was signed by Senior Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ikrom Muslimov and Director of the Tashkent branch of St Petersburg University Makhmudzhon Ziiadullaev.
The cooperation involves joint training of high-quality lawyers in Uzbekistan and organising practical training for students at St Petersburg University and joint projects involving students at the St Petersburg University branch in Tashkent to ensure graduates can proceed to employment in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Today, St Petersburg University is implementing a programme of representative offices and branches of the University, which facilitates the export of education and the training of highly qualified personnel for the needs of these countries, said Sergey Andryushin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at St Petersburg University.
It is important for St Petersburg University to prepare students whose skills and competencies will be in high demand in many different areas of employment. Such cooperation implies involvement representatives of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan in implementing the academic programmes at the Tashkent branch of St Petersburg University and engaging them in the University’s events.

"A separate and no less important area of cooperation will be compiling a «bank» of current problematic topics that will help increase the competitiveness of the Supreme Court system and conducting joint research on the most relevant topics for colleagues from Uzbekistan," said Sergey Andryushin.
The document also involves development and implementation of comprehensive measures to support young researchers, including the publication of articles and monographs in academic journals, seminars, national and international conferences on current problematic topics in the field of law.
The branch of St Petersburg University in Tashkent began its work in 2021. The decree to open the branch was signed by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In the autumn of 2023, the branch offered the programme "International Business in the Digital Economy".
In 2024, the branch offered bachelor’s and master’s admissions. The total student body is 120 students. The competition was five people per place. The branch opened admissions in the following areas of study: "Economics", "Law", "Asian and African Studies", and "Fundamental Informatics and Information Technology". The applications were submitted not only by citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, but also citizens of other countries. Among them are the following: Ghana, India, China, Côte d’Ivoire, Mexico, Nigeria, and Turkmenistan.
