St Petersburg University to train highly qualified teachers to promote Slavonic languages and literature

The programme is unique in that it combines the classical approach and modern tools of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The centuries-old traditions of St Petersburg University create a solid basis for the comprehensive training of Slavonic scholars at the interface of philology, linguistics and modern pedagogy. Students study the following courses: History of Russian Literature; Translation Theory and Practice; and Methods of Teaching Slavonic Languages to Speakers of Related Slavonic Languages to name just a few. Students in the academic programme master Slavonic languages and Western European languages at a high professional level.

The programme has been developed by a team of leading philologists of St Petersburg University. Among the lecturers are honorary professors, doctors of philology, doctors of pedagogy, and highly cited scholars who experts in Slavonic studies. 

Graduates can work as translators and interpreters, editors in publishing houses, employees of diplomatic missions and in other humanitarian spheres. The additional qualification "Teacher of Russian Language and Literature" will enable graduates to carry out this professional activity in Russian and foreign educational institutions.
