St Petersburg University will hold the 2nd Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language

In the new academic year, St Petersburg University will again hold an Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language for schoolchildren and students. This time, its winners will receive once again commemorative prizes and study guides from the St Petersburg University publishing house. Additionally, they will also have the opportunity of having a free state test in Russian as a foreign language.
St Petersburg University is putting great effort into promoting and supporting the Russian language abroad. Last year was the first implementation of the project ‘Olympiad of St Petersburg University in Russian as a Foreign Language’ which was held to identify talented youth. In the 2018/19 academic year, more than 1,450 people from 82 countries applied for participation in the Olympiad. The results of the correspondence tour were that 646 people from 63 countries headed into the next round. The final Olympiad results were that 124 people won prizes in the ‘student’ category and 123 people in the ‘schoolchildren’ category. 15 people were awarded a special prize for their love of the Russian language. There were also winners of the Olympiad among last year’s foreign applicants to the University. They submitted their diplomas along with documents when enrolling for studying at St Petersburg University, and now many of them are already university students.
We would like to emphasize that the Olympiad is not only a way to test yourself, but also a way to believe in yourself and your strengths.
Dmitrii Ptiushkin, Acting Director of the St Petersburg University Language Testing Centre
‘For some participants, such an event might become more than just participation in the competition: for some it is just a test and test of knowledge; but for the others it is the beginning of a long, complicated, but unique way of learning the Russian language. This includes St Petersburg University as well,’ Dmitrii Ptiushkin, Acting Director of the St Petersburg University Language Testing Centre, said encouragingly.
Winners of the Olympiad will receive the opportunity to take a state test in Russian as a foreign language in one of the 77 authorised centres of the University in 37 countries. The best of the best will be able to attend a one-week course in Russian as a foreign language at St Petersburg University. Additionally, as in the past year, the diploma of a champion and a prize winner will give a significant bonus to foreign applicants when enrolling for the University's academic programmes.
The registration has already started and will last until 26 November, 2019. Everyone who wants to take part in the 2nd Olympiad of St Petersburg University in Russian as a Foreign Language can register here.
This year’s tasks of the Olympiad have become more interesting and varied. Also, the lessons have led to some change of the format of the tasks for the correspondence stage.
