Why and how jurisprudence regulates Big Data: a new online course from St Petersburg University

The new online course of St Petersburg University ‘Big Data from a Legal Perspective: Introduction to the Issues’ gives students an overview of current trends and practices in jurisprudence.
During the course, teachers will explain the main legal issues of Big Data technologies and look at them through the prism of Russian legal regulation. Thanks to an interdisciplinary approach, legal relations within the digital space are examined in relation to the intrinsic specifics of Big Data technology.
Thus, the course consists of six thematic blocks: from the study of the legal features of Big Data to legal problems in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Students will be able to acquire the necessary skills to deal with legal issues in the IT field, a mainstream in today's job market.

The course developers are leading professors of St Petersburg University, participants in the thematic working groups ‘Big Data’ and ‘Cyber-Physical Systems’ of the Digital Economy programme, and co-authors of the Dentons study on legal regulation of various types of secrets in the context of Big Data, commissioned by Skolkovo as part of the programme.
