Exhibition

Anya in Wonderland

From 6 July to 28 August 2024
Saint Petersburg, 47 Bolshaya Morskaya Street

Exhibition "Anya in Wonderland".

The phantasmagorical exhibition brings together the works of more than 50 bright contemporary artists who focus on the absurdist, fairy-tale world of Lewis Carroll.

Alice, who became Anya in the Russian translation, was dear and close to Vladimir Nabokov during his childhood and the first years of his emigration.

Vladimir Nabokov worked on "Anya in Wonderland" from 1919 to 1923. In 2024, the translation is 101 years-old.

The feeling of falling into the rabbit hole, the instability of space and time, the pursuit of the white rabbit are the vivid images that have been repeatedly reflected in world literature, cinema, and fine arts. The artistic technique of the work is a key code that lifts the curtain of the secret door between the worlds, i.e. the real and the magical, the world of reality and dreams.

The fairy tale, if you look closely, is not at all for children, and its imagery world is full of cruelty and tragedy.

Yet, there is always a way out in the darkness, i.e. a silhouette of the bright doorway, which inspired us not to lose hope.
